by Leighah Beadle-Darcy Spring is emerging here in the UK, and there is a little more light outside, though we are not yet in full Spring and the longer daylight days. Daffodils are ready to bloom, which is a bright change from the dark and bare winter (thankfully there are perennials too though!). All seasons are necessary in Nature and in our lives. There is a natural life-death-life process in all things. We will return to this process in later blog posts. Seeing the very colours of Spring emerging in Nature can affect us positively. This does not mean it 'makes everything better' just by looking, but many people report it have a positive effect on them. I find this for myself too. Colour affects our brain, Nature affects our brain. We are an inherent part of Nature as human beings, and spending time in Nature, or with animals, or having plants or flowers around can help us feel more grounded and connected. Symbolically, Spring and Spring Equinox can represent such things as new things emerging, ideas forming, seeds budding. It can be a time when we are naturally more ready to work on a new project or creation, or at least form an idea for something. It may be in the more withdrawn and darker Winter months, the ideas have been percolating underground as we naturally rest and allow it (it is natural that we may spend more time indoors or beside the fire, winding down at sunset - or at least maybe on some days, as there may still be some responsibilities and work to complete in the evenings).
If you like journalling and find it useful, here is a journal prompt to help you explore Spring and what is emerging for you:
'What ideas are budding for me at the moment? What am I feeling drawn to exploring or doing?'
If you don't like journalling or do not find it useful, perhaps you can just reflect on these questions, or explore them with a friend, therapist or coach, or someone else.
